My first choice is what I call the best kept secret in Los Angeles, the city of Glendale. It has two major spots that you shouldn’t miss. The first one is Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Don’t be alarmed by the fact that it is a cemetery; otherwise you would deprive yourself not only from enjoying the most incredible and totally unique pieces of art, but also from expanding your perception of this inevitable part of life. There are three important stops to make at Forest Lawn in Glendale:
1. The Great Mausoleum: The Builder’s Creed, The Last Supper stained glass window, marble replicas of Michelangelo’s masterpieces, and pay tribute to the famous stars buried inside of this magnificent building.
2. The Hall of The Crucifixion-Resurrection hosts two incredible paintings: The Crucifixion by Polish artist Jan Styka and The Resurrection by American artist Robert Clark.
3. The Museum on the top of the hill next to the Hall of the Crucificion-Resurrection has permanent as well as temporary exhibits.
There are many more things to see at Forest Lawn Glendale, and it all depends on how much time you’d like to spend there. Even if you are not planning to stay there too long, allocate a minimum of 2 hours for just the above places.
It sounds interesting. I have been passingly in Glendale once. It seems to me clear and quite city to live. Summer is coming. I am ready to explore Glendale in my summer vacation by following your offered places.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting! I love Glendale. But I've never visited the cemetery. I like the farmers market at The Americana. Looking forward to more tips!
ReplyDeleteInteresting! I've visited Forest Lawn for funerals, but never just to take in the art and beauty. I think it's neat that you included it as one of your "sights". That shows a lot of individuality and spunk!
